Celebration of Dr. Bradley Middleton’s life is Sept. 10

A celebration of Dr. Bradley Middleton’s life will be held Sunday, Sept. 10 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Marriott Syracuse (100 E. Onondaga St.). A receiving line will run from 3 to 4 p.m. and speeches will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. The Upstate community is welcome.

Addressing Equity, Inclusion and Bias in Academic Medicine is the focus of a fall series of workshops beginning Sept. 27

Addressing Equity, Inclusion and Bias in Academic Medicine will be the focus of a fall series of workshops. The free presentations and accompanying debrief sessions are open to all Upstate faculty and staff. All sessions will be virtual. The presentations will feature Diana Lautenberger, director of Gender Equity Initiatives at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). 

  • The first in the series will address Unconscious Bias in the Health Professions Sept. 27. This virtual presentation will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m., with a debriefing session set for Oct. 13 at 3 p.m.
  • The second presentation in the series will address Confronting Dominant Culture to Create Inclusive Environments and Belonging on Oct. 25, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., with a debriefing session set for Nov. 1 at 2 p.m.
  • A third presentation will feature Allyship, Bystander Intervention and Responding to Microaggressions; it will be held Nov. 1 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. with a debrief session on Dec. 6 at 3 p.m.
  • The fourth presentation will highlight Understanding Gender Bias Today and Solutions to Address. It will be held Jan. 31, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. A debrief session for this presentation will be held Feb. 7 at 1 p.m.

SPROUT seeks women of color for focus group

The SPROUT pilot project is seeking women of color who are currently pregnant or have given birth within the past five years to participate in a one-hour discussion on the barriers and facilitators of exercising during pregnancy. The focus group will meet Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. in the Campus Activities Building on Elizabeth Blackwell Street. Participants will receive $100 in appreciation for their time.
